Meeting with pablo vierci, author of "the snow society"

The author of 'The Snow Society', Pablo Vierci, will participate on April 29 in a meeting at the Mirador del Carmen

The journalist and writer will address the origin of the book on which Juan Antonio Bayona's acclaimed film about the plane crash in the Andes is based.

The Estepona City Council informs that the Uruguayan journalist and writer Pablo Vierci, author of the book 'The Snow Society' on which the successful film by Juan Antonio Bayona is based, will participate in a meeting with readers on Monday, April 29 at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center. Pablo Vierci (Montevideo, 1950) is the author of a dozen books, including 'The Snow Society', published in 2008, translated into Portuguese, and republished in 2022 (Alrevés Editorial), translated into English, Italian and Catalan. It is currently number 1 in sales in Spain.

Twice winner of the second National Prize for Literature of Uruguay (1987 and 2004) and the Golden Book Prize of the Uruguayan Book Chamber (2009), he has also written numerous scripts for feature films that have also been recognized with the Fona Prize (1999). ), Award for Best Screenplay at the 29th Havana Film Festival (2007), and the Award for Best Screenplay at the 14th Lleida Film Festival (2008). In 2003 he obtained the Citi Journalistic Excellence Award, completed at Columbia University in New York.

In his meeting with readers in Estepona, Vierci will address the origin of both the book 'The Society of Nine' and the renowned film by Juan Antonio Bayona - nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars - which bears the same title. The writer has been responsible for the investigation into the aerial tragedy in the Andes that interested the Spanish film director until he brought it to the big screen and is also an associate producer of the feature film.

Vierci was a student at the Stella Maris-Christian Brothers school and had even played rugby on the school's team, so he was friends with many of the young people who were on the crashed plane. He began writing the book in 1973. He accompanied a group of survivors with their children to the mountains. In 'The Snow Society' he collects the first-person testimony of these young people about what the 72 days in the mountain range were like, how they overcame that extreme situation, how they understood death, what the accident meant and how it influenced their later life.
