Estepona family school 24/25
The City Council and the Horizonte-Proyecto Hombre Association are launching a new edition of the School for Families to address the main issues affecting young people
This free activity will take place at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, and consists of ten sessions that will be held from November 11 to February 17.
The councillor for Youth, Julia Simón, and the director of the Association Horizonte-Proyecto Hombre Marbella, Jaime Álvarez, have today announced the start of a new edition of the 'School for Families' activity, an initiative aimed at parents, relatives and educators interested in addressing issues affecting young people.
The municipal representative recalled that this year marks the fourteenth edition of this project, which has made it consolidated as a very useful tool for parents when it comes to dealing with the different problems that arise in the education of adolescents. “It is an activity that is very successful and that attracts more people with each edition interested in obtaining tools that help them manage the emotional education of their children and the risks of behaviour,” declared the councillor.
This programme is subsidised by the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, and as the councillor has emphasised, it is in continuous evolution, driven by the needs and concerns that are raised on more than one occasion by the attendees themselves. Through these sessions, both classic problems that are repeated in this sector of the population are dealt with, as well as other new risk situations that are created and that are unknown to parents.
The municipal official also thanked the association Horizonte-Proyecto Hombre for its collaboration with the City Council in making this initiative possible every year and highlighted the efforts of the team of professionals who have been working on the prevention and treatment of addictions and associated risk factors since 1981.
Jaime Álvarez explained that the programme is divided into 10 educational sessions that will take place weekly, between 11 November and 17 February, at the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, and will cover a wide variety of topics. They will be taught by specialised staff from the Horizonte Association - Proyecto Hombre.
The first session will be on November 11 and will focus on how we act when faced with problems and difficulties with our children; on November 18 the meeting will deal with how to reduce and control emotional tension; and on November 25 the meeting will focus on how to manage family rules. The sessions will continue on December 2, with the topic of family communication; and on December 16, we will learn how to resolve conflicts.
The programme will be resumed on 20 January with self-esteem and social skills, and will continue on 27 January with the talk 'Educating in Emotional Intelligence'. On 3 February the period of 'Adolescence: guidelines for family action' will be discussed, to continue on 10 February with 'Healthy habits in the use of social networks and new technologies'. Finally, on 17 February the sessions will be closed with the topic 'Getting informed about what drugs are and their effects on the body'.
