More than 200 people will participate in the historical recreation that pays tribute to Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique

The association 'Manzanares Estepona 1831' will hold several events this week to remember the role played by both liberals in the defence of constitutionalist and democratic values.

The councillor assigned to the Citizen Participation delegation, María Aguilar; the historian of the Manzanares Estepona 1831 Association, José María Guerrero; and the actor and herald of the event, Miguel López, have today presented the programme organised to celebrate the eighth edition of the Tribute to Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique, which will take place from 6 to 9 March in our city.

The events will begin on Thursday, March 6, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, where the Estepona actor Miguel López will offer a monologue-proclamation 'Yo, Salvador Manzanares' under the direction of Luque, director of the Municipal Theater Group 'La Farándula'.

Also on Friday, March 7, there will be a discussion on the figure of Manzanares, a constitutionalist politician and military man, defender of civil rights and of the first Spanish democracy. It will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

The programme will continue on Saturday 8 March at 12 noon with a commemorative event in memory of Manzanares at the Estepona Historical Cemetery, specifically at the monument to the liberals, where the remains of this hero of democracy and 17 of his men rest.

The final touch to this tribute will be the Historical Recreation and the Romantic-Liberal period parade in which more than two hundred people dressed in the style of 1831 will participate, representing 15 Andalusian cultural associations.

The procession will leave at 10.30 am from the Botanical-Orchid Park, continue along Calle Terraza, Plaza del Reloj where the main events will take place, Calle Santa Ana, Calle Real, the mouth of Arroyo La Cala, where the beach will be occupied, ending at the Historic Cemetery of Estepona.

At the same time, tribute will be paid to the young man from Estepona, Pedro Manrique, a cultured man with a broad awareness of civic values, who died in Malaga in 1831, together with General José María de Torrijos. It will take place on Calle Santa Ana, at the door of the house where he was born at around 12:45 p.m.
