The City Council premieres the Sinfonietta 'Estepona, the City of Flowers', composed by the winner of the IV International Composition Competition for Symphonic Band Hugo Chinesta.
The piece will be performed by the Estepona Municipal Band, under the direction of its author, in a monographic concert that will take place on Saturday, March 15 at the Felipe VI Auditorium.
Invitations can be picked up at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center starting Monday 10th.
Estepona Town Hall informs that next Saturday, March 15, at 8:00 p.m., a concert will take place in the Felipe VI Auditorium in which the work inspired by the city 'Espona, the City of Flowers' will be premiered, composed by the composer and director Hugo Chinesta (Aldaia-1977), winner of the IV Composition Competition for Symphonic Band 'Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol'.
With the musical form Sinfonietta for Wind and Percussion Orchestra, the composition will be performed by the Municipal Band of Estepona with Hugo Chinesta himself as guest conductor in a monographic concert. Through four passages: the Flower Labyrinth, the Orchid Palace, the Corpse Flower and the Flower Square, the author intends to transmit the sensations to the four senses of those who pass through the urban garden that is Estepona: the beauty of the colour, the softness to the touch and the fragrance, and the flavour of tradition and Andalusia.
The concert will have free admission with an invitation, which must be collected at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, Monday to Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Symphonic Band Composition Competition aims to motivate great composers to create symphonic works for the band repertoire based on the population of Estepona. The City Council called the first edition of the Competition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Estepona Municipal Band (1940-2020). A total of eight composers of recognized national and international prestige have participated in this fourth call. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros.
Jury
The jury for this edition is chaired by the band and orchestra director, composer and pianist Fernando Ferrer Martínez 'Ferrer Ferran'; together with Óscar Navarro González, director, clarinettist, composer and music teacher, nominated for the Goya Award for Best Original Music (La Mula, 2013); and José María Moreno Valiente, director of the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra.
These high-level and internationally renowned professionals have been in charge of choosing the composer with the best curriculum and catalogue, whose musical composition project reflects his vision of the city and whose values of the competition are outstanding, promoting the city of Estepona, its people and its customs. To do so, they have taken into account criteria such as the composer's career, his musical catalogue, his experience and his dedication to symphonic bands or wind and percussion orchestras.
The winning works of the four competitions held, 'Estepona, Garden of the Mediterranean (Astabuna)', by the composer from Jaén, Álvaro López Cámara; “Estepona, the Garden of the World”, by the Valencian composer Fernando Ferrer Martínez, known artistically as Ferrer Ferran; the Suite Continua for Symphonic Band 'Impresiones de Estepona' by the Dutch conductor and composer Christiaan Janssen; and this last one, Sinfonietta for Wind and Percussion Orchestra 'Espona, City of Flowers', by Hugo Chinesta, are already part of the archive of the Estepona Municipal Band department.
