HOUSE OF THE TEJERINAS

"more was lost in cuba, a tribute to aldo menendez" art expo

The Casa de Las Tejerinas will host a new exhibition of contemporary art by artists from the Cuban generation of the 1980s in Cuba, a tribute to the renowned artist Aldo Menéndez.

The exhibition 'More Was Lost in Cuba, Tribute to Aldo Menéndez' can be visited from September 5 to 18, with free admission.

Estepona City Council announces that the central courtyard of Casa de Las Tejerinas, located in Plaza de las Flores, will host a new contemporary art exhibition starting September 5th featuring artists from the 1980s generation in Cuba. These artists belong to a group that left Cuba in the 1990s and reside, mostly in the US, Spain, and Mexico. Among their goals is to stimulate cultural exchange between Estepona and other communities that share an interest in the arts.

The exhibition is titled "More Was Lost in Cuba - Tribute to Aldo Menéndez" and, like the first exhibition last March, is part of the Jorge Rynardus collection. Considered a pioneer in the world of Hispanic advertising, he holds a prominent place among Cuban art collectors and is the founder of The Cuban Art Alliance. The double meaning of the title reflects, on the one hand, the immigration of Andalusians to Cuba and, on the other, the artists Cuba lost in the diaspora of the 1990s.

Aldo Menéndez, the honoree, is a renowned Cuban artist who lived in Spain for many years and passed away in Miami in 2020. Menéndez directed the Porto Carrero Workshop in Cuba, where these creatives learned the art of printing, and is recognized as a multifaceted artist: a painter, graphic designer, silkscreen expert, art critic, exhibition curator, author of several monographs, and editor of the book "Artists in Purgatory." In 1987, the Cuban Ministry of Culture awarded him the National Order of Cuban Culture.

On this occasion, the art exhibition includes works by artists such as Ruben Mendoza, Julio Antonio, Francisco Guiller, Fernando Garcia, Miguel Loredo, Maria Magdalena Campos Pons, Pedro Vizcaino, Mario Algaze, Sandra Ramos, Aldito Menendez (son of Aldo), Ruben Torres Llorca, Agustin Fernandez, Alejandro Aguilera, Aldo Menendez, Angel Vapor, Antonia Eiriz, Francisco Bernal, Juan Vicente Bonachea, Carlos Estevez, Consuelo Castaneda, Carlos R. Cardenas, Eduardo Munoz Ordoquiz, Guido Llinas, Luis Cruz Azaceta, Sergio Payares, Alfredo Sosa Bravo and Willie Castellanos.

The exhibition can be visited until September 18, from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with free admission.
