The 'ESTeatro Farándula' Festival kicks off on Friday with 'Visiting Time' by Alonso de Santos

The seven theatrical performances of the Municipal Theater Group 'Farándula' will take place from October 10 to 24 (Thursdays and Fridays) at 8:00 p.m., at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

Estepona City Council announces that the Municipal Theater Group "Farándula," directed by Luque, will open the "ESTeatro Farándula" Theater Festival on Friday, October 10th, with the play "Hora de visita" by Valladolid-born author JL Alonso de Santos. The performance will take place at 8:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

The first edition of this theater festival will be held from October 10th to 24th (October 10, 16, 17, 23, and 24). This ambitious project includes seven plays and was born from its members' love of theater and their desire to offer audiences a wide range of quality works from different genres.

With this theater festival, the GMT "Farándula," which has a history of more than 40 years on the stage, aims to offer, enjoy, share, and consolidate theater as an essential part of Estepona's cultural life.

Daily donation: €5. Special donation for all 5 days: €20.

The planned program is as follows:

Day 10: 'Visiting Hour' by JL Alonso de Santos. (Synopsis: The story takes place in a hospital room where a woman visits her daughter. In an effort to restore her spark of life, the mother displays all the weapons at her disposal: humor, songs, irony, and love, lots of love.)

· Day 16: 'El Niceto y La Leoncia' by José Cedena (Synopsis: This is the story of a newlywed couple married by contract and a mother-in-law included in the mix... By schedule... A bitch and a bad boy... And a big hurry for offspring to arrive), and 'Las cenizas del Difunto' by Stella Manaut. (Synopsis: What a hard job it is to die! And if you don't believe me, just ask the protagonists of this curious black comedy of micro-theater, in which they find themselves involved in fulfilling the last will of a friend).

· Day 17: '¡Ay, Carmela!' by José Sanchis Sinisterra. (Synopsis: A couple of mediocre artists, Carmela and Paulino, who scrape by during the Spanish Civil War performing in the towns of Republican Spain, on one of their trips, by mistake or ignorance, cross over to the Nationalist side, where they are arrested and forced to perform for the Nationalist troops and some of their prisoners.

Day 23: 'The Consultation' by Ángel Camacho Cabrera. (Synopsis: An elderly woman named Encarnita is in the waiting room of a doctor's office, deeply involved in her knitting while waiting to be seen. Suddenly, her attention is drawn to a young patient who interrupts the conversation.) and 'Figures Without a Landscape' by Jorge Márquez. (Synopsis: Renata and Antolín find themselves on a boat on the sea of their solitude. Her incomprehension and apathy clash with his apathy and boredom, who seems to have freed himself from all prejudice.)

· Day 24: 'Sunday Morning' by JL Alonso de Santos. (Synopsis: A middle-aged couple on different Sunday mornings, in the four seasons, with Vivaldi music in the background. The seemingly comical and trivial situation is filled with surreal and dreamlike elements.)

GMT 'FARÁNDULA'. The Municipal Theater Group was founded in 1983 and debuted in 1984 with the play 'En la ardiente oscuridad' by Buero Vallejo. Since then, it has premiered nearly 100 titles in various theater genres.

Among the numerous awards received, the one awarded at the XV Campillos Competition stands out: best play and best female performance for Mª Victoria de Miguel with 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', a free version of the work based on the text by playwright Tennessee Williams, whose performance also earned her the Best Play Award at the National Theatre Competition 'Villa de Pizarra 2014'.

At the 13th Campillos Competition, two of its members, Rafa Alijas and Mar Berlanga, were also recognized as best performers in Adolfo Marsillach's well-known play 'Yo me bajo en la próxima, ¿y usted?'. Two recognitions stand out in 2011: the award for best male performance went to Miguel López for his role in 'Gaviotas subterráneos' at the 11th Campillos Competition and the 3rd Olvera Theatre Competition. That same year, it received the 'Torre Almenara 2011' Award for Best Cultural Entity, granted by the 24 Hours of Sports Foundation of Estepona.

In addition, the GMT "Farándula" won two awards in 2016 at the 16th "Isidro Carbonero Villa de Campillos" Theater Competition. The show "Mamás," a comic play by Marc Egea in which two women share their experiences in motherhood, won Best Female Performer for Mercedes Bazán and Best Set Design. Since 1998, the GMT "Farándula" has been directed by Jesús Luque.
