The Estepona City Council informs that next Wednesday, December 10, at 6:00 p.m., the Alfonso Gil Alfonso Room of the Casa de Las Tejerinas will host the presentation of the book “Poems in Time” by the writer Pilar Laura Martínez de la Puerta, in an event that will be presented by Pedro Villarejo.
Through this collection of poems, the author expresses the emotions that have marked different moments in her life, with the aim of sharing feelings and ideas in which any reader can see themselves reflected. The poems address themes such as personal experiences, the role of women, love for the land, the teaching vocation, and the importance of honest self-reflection. All of this with a clear objective: to elevate culture and foster a connection between one's own experiences and those of others.
Author's Biography
Pilar Laura Martínez de la Puerta was born in Jaén into a family of educators, which instilled in her a passion for teaching from a young age. She completed her secondary education and teacher training, earning her primary school teaching certificate. After securing her first teaching position in Jaén, she requested a transfer to Manilva in 1969, where she taught until the 1976/77 academic year. She then obtained a permanent position at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Primary School in Estepona, where she continued her teaching career until her retirement.
She pioneered the "Grandparents in the Classroom" project, an initiative she championed for the last fifteen years of her career, bringing the experience and memories of older adults into the school environment. A mother of five and grandmother of five, the author has always combined her teaching vocation with intense involvement in cultural activities. She has been a finalist and winner in several national short story and poetry competitions.
After her retirement, she has continued to dedicate herself to writing. She has published two novels: You Will Be the One Who Comes to Find Me (2013) and The Pleasure of Power (2023). “Poems in Time” is her latest literary endeavor, a book that captures her poetic sensibility and her perspective on life.
