The City Council celebrates the 130th anniversary of the birth of cinema with a film concert and a screening of the film It's a Wonderful Life!
The event will be presented by international pianist and baritone David Geary, and will take place on Wednesday, December 17, at 7:30 p.m., with free admission until capacity is reached.
The Estepona Town Hall announces that this year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of cinema. To commemorate this anniversary, a cinematic piano and vocal concert, presented by international pianist and baritone David Geary, will take place next Wednesday, December 17th, at 7:30 pm at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
The American musician will be accompanied on piano by María del Carmen Pérez Blanco from Málaga. Together with singers Julio Peces Ruiz, Marina Ruiz, Miguel López, and María Rosa Pérez, they will perform timeless film songs, such as those from "Casablanca," "La La Land," and "Cabaret," among others.
Next, we will be showing the film It's a Wonderful Life (1946), by Frank Capra. Considered one of the greatest films in cinematic history, it is based on the short story The Greatest Gift, written by Philip Van Doren Stern in 1939, which, in turn, is loosely based on Charles Dickens' novel A Christmas Carol.
George Bailey (James Stewart) is an honest and modest citizen who runs and keeps afloat a small family bank, and whose intention to commit suicide on Christmas Eve prompts the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers), who shows George what life in his town would be like if he had never existed.

130 years of cinema (1895-2025). The history of cinema as entertainment began in Paris on December 28, 1895. The birth of cinema is situated on that date, when the first films by brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière were projected to the public in the Indian Salon of the Grand Café in Paris.
David Geary (Toronto, 1942). Determined to become a singer since the age of seven, in his youth he combined university studies with work at the Toronto Opera School and the Stratford Festival, as well as television appearances in Toronto and Montreal. At 22, he moved to Munich to study singing, and later to Switzerland, where he remained until 1991 as a singer, pianist, assistant conductor, and voice teacher in the city of Saint Gallen, in addition to directing a male choir.
Since 2015 he has resided in Estepona, where he founded the opera company 'La Operita de Estepona', with which he has premiered several productions, in addition to collaborations with local artists and groups, contributing to enriching the musical culture of the city.
