Chess play with us
The Estepona City Council reports that the Municipal Chess School (EMAE) organizes, once again, chess games on the seafront, throughout the summer. The activity 'Play with Us' is free and is open to all the public that wishes it.
It will take place in the area of the giant chess boards, from July 1 to August 28, from Monday to Friday, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., under the supervision of EMAE professor Miguel Abril. This year, the activity will be carried out in compliance with the recommendations of the health authorities, so users will have masks and disinfectant gel at their disposal.
In addition to the table tops for quick games, twelve large-format boards of 20 square meters each will be available, as well as giant pieces made of pressed plastic of a length of 55 centimeters.
This activity is part of the Chess Promotion Plan launched by the Estepona City Council in 2011 and which has allowed, as a pioneering educational experience, that all children born since 2004 have received training to learn to play chess. In this way, more than 6,500 students have approached this game, which offers important intellectual benefits to those who practice it.
Specifically, the practice of chess brings important benefits for children, since it exercises and improves memory, concentration, creativity and logic and even helps them solve problems and advance reading comprehension.
